One of the most highly valued projects here at JKR is the Dreamsicle (Lavender Albino Piebald). This combo is one of the most valued and sought after Ball Python combos in existence.
Because of this, I get a lot of inquiries about the project, and a lot of questions about buying scenarios. Unless they have experience with a double recessive project like this, most people are unsure how to make a smart buy.
To clarify options, here are some scenarios with the ongoing outcome and odds. Because I want this article to be helpful for many years to come, this guide excludes buy-in costs and profit scenarios.
Option #1: Lowest Initial Investment
Animals Needed: Lavender Male / Piebald Female
Time to make Dreamsicles: 2-4 seasons breeding seasons on average
Odds: 0 the first breeding, 1:16 the subsequent breeding
Notes: This will be a 2 step project. Breed this pair together to create double Het Dreamsicles, then breed the resulting dbl hets together for a 1:16 (per egg) chance at a visual Dreamsicle. This process from beginning to end will likely take 4-5 years with optimal odds.
Option #2: Getting right to it
Animals Needed: Male / Female pair of double Het Dreamsicles
Time to make Dreamsicles: 1-2 breeding seasons dependent on odds
Odds: 1:16
Notes: This cuts 2-3 seasons and a complete breeding cycle out of the process compared to option #1. Your odds of producing a Dreamsicle will be 1:16, a long shot. It might take 2 or more clutches to hit the odds.
Option #3: Serious business
Animals Needed: Male Lavender het Piebald (or Pied Het Lav) / Female dbl het Dreamsicle
Time to make Dreamsicles: 1st breeding season with good odds
Odds: 1:8
Notes: The time scenario here is the same previously, however the odds are now doubled. 1:8 offspring will now be Dreamsicles, meaning most clutches from this pair will include a Dreamsicle.
Option #4: Take no prisoners
Animals Needed: Male Lavender het Piebald / Female Pied Het Lavender (or reverse)
Time to make Dreamsicles: 1st breeding season
Odds: 1:4
Notes: Fantastic odds to produce Dreamsicles with great surety. 1:4 offspring will now be Dreamsicles, meaning most clutches from this pair will include at least one Dreamsicle.
Option #5: Pro package
Animals Needed: Male Dreamsicle / Female Pied Het Lavender (or Lav het Pied)
Time to make Dreamsicles: 1st breeding season
Odds: 1:2
Notes: Fantastic odds to produce Dreamsicles in great quantity. Half offspring will now be Dreamsicles, meaning most clutches from this pair will include at least one Dreamsicle.
Option #6: Nothing but Dreams
Animals Needed: Male Dreamsicle / Female Dreamsicle
Time to make Dreamsicles: 1st breeding season
Odds: 1:1
Notes: Nothing but Dreamsicles, 100%. However, while each previous option offered a greater and greater return on initial investment, this doesn’t continue on #6. At present, the cost of purchasing a pair of Dreamsicles does not offer a better value than doing option #5 + one extra female. (Lav Het Pied or Pied Het Lav)
As always, you can see my current Dreamsicle project availability on the JKR Master Available list. I would be happy to help you start your Dreamsicle journey.

Very informative. I currently have a male Dream and a female Het Dream. Female will not be ready until 2016 breeding season. Very excited to get started. Hoping to have a female Black Pastel pied Het Dream ready for 2017 🙂 fingers crossed.
Why is male dreamsicle X female normal double het lavander pied not in the options? Just curious since it really makes great odds and will result to 100% double hets at the very least. A better option than #4 and let’s the breeder use the male dreamsicle on other codom females to create some double het morphs.
Its a good option, not really the angle I would want to go, but definitely a legit idea 🙂
